We have heard from many, many member-owners following our special member meeting on April 11th (read more about that meeting here) and we have noticed that we might not have made it completely clear what benchmarks we have to reach by when. Here is what needs to happen by July 1st in order to move forward with our current location, 2352 Dallas Street.

By July 1st we must identify the following subsidies. If we don’t find these resources, we will need to change our location.

— $700,000 in grants/donations
This sounds like a lot, and it is, but it is far from impossible. We have the opportunity to reach out to a number of different entities and get creative. Want to help? Contact board member Carolyn Pace at cmpace02 (at) gmail.com or (208)870-5505.

— $150,000 in rent subsidies every year
This would put our rent per square foot more in line with what other co-ops are facing around the country. Though it’s a big ask, consider that the Denver City Council recently voted to approve a $4 million incentive package for an urban Target to be built on the 16th Street Mall


We also need to ensure that we will be able to recruit enough member-owners to support and invest in our co-op. This is what we will need before we open, as soon as next year.  (Note: these numbers have NOT changed).

— at least 700 more member-owners
— $1,500,000 in investments from member-owners

We do NOT need to get to 1,500 member-owners by July 1st (as was suggested in an otherwise GREAT Denver Post article about us — read it here!)  We would like to get to 900 by July 1st, and over 1,000 by the end of 2017.   1. I have supported co ops in the past, and would love to support your store , however the most I ever invested was $125. For a widow on a fixed income $200 seems to expensive for me. Have you ever considered tiers with a differential in discounts. Just a thought.

      Thanks for your support of co-ops, and for you interest in supporting us! We have thought about this, and agree that we need to have options for folks who cannot afford a $200 payment. We do have a payment plan for as low as $25/month, but if that is also not an option for you, we are working to raise money for our scholarship fund. This fund would provide reduced priced memberships to folks who qualify for government assistance.
